Physical Therapy

The American Heritage Dictionary defines physical therapy as the treatment of physical dysfunction or injury by the use of therapeutic exercise and the application of modalities, intended to restore or facilitate normal function or development. Physical therapy promotes optimal health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct or alleviate acute or prolonged dysfunction.

Physical therapists attain their knowledge and skills through extensive academic and clinical education. To enter the profession, physical therapists must graduate from a four year college and obtain their graduate degree from an accredited physical therapy program. A physical therapist must then secure a license by successfully completing a state licensure examination. The licensure is renewed yearly and is maintained by completing continued education credits.

Physical therapy places great emphasis on the evaluation process. A physical therapist will perform a thorough physical evaluation to identify the dysfunctions that cause your pain. Then a treatment regimen suited to your individual problem is devised and the work to restore proper motion and ease discomfort begins. Treatment may include: heat, cold, massage, manual therapy, joint mobilization, exercise for stretching or strengthening, balance and coordination exercises, gait training, and skills training to improve activities of daily living and restore function. The goal of physical therapy is to return you to normal life as soon as possible with the skills you need to prevent re-injury.

A major problem today's traditional physical therapy centers face is the inability to fully rehabilitate their clients because of the limitations imposed by insurance companies, such as high co-pays and number of sessions allotted, as well as the shortened session times and restricted access large systems have implemented. In many cases, clients are left to fend for themselves with most attempting continued improvement on their own, either at home or at a fitness center. Unfortunately, traditional fitness centers are unable to provide measurable improvements in health status because the staff lacks experience and education to assess, diagnose and treat aches and pains.

Studio U bridges the gap between traditional physical therapy and fitness centers. At Studio U we have eliminated the obstacles, your health and fitness is determined by you. You decide how many sessions you want and how long you want those sessions to be. Physical therapy is appropriate for everyone at every level of fitness.
